>> welcome back. breaking news out of silver spring, maryland. >> jummy olabanji. >> we heard from the montgomery county police department's. a police involved shooting after 3:00 this morning.

suspect called the police claiming that he would hurt himself or possibly others. they found out the suspect was headed to his girlfriend's house in silver spring in the 9500 block of woodman drive. officers found him in a stairwell of the home and were able to make contact with the family living in a home and told them to get out. they got out safely. there was an exchange of gunfire at some point and the man was struck by police and taken to hospital. we don't know his condition. no police have been injured. john gonzalez is headed to the scene in silver spring and we will have an update for you later in the newscast. back to you. >> thank you. police avenue " in their search for missing a 10-year-old colorado girl. jessica ridgway was last seen friday as she walked into a parked amid class weighmates before school. they found a backpack 6 miles

from her home and it's likely linked to her. the outbreak of non-contagious meningitis continues to grow. 91 cases reported in nine states. seven people have died. 3 cases in maryland's including one death. in virginia, 18 cases reported, including one death. the pharmacy that distributed the steroids a link to the outbreak has issued a voluntary recall. thousands of people could never received the steroid injection for back pain. >> a warning for coffee lovers. a new study shows drinking several glasses a day could increase your risk of glaucoma. drinking 3 cups of caffeinated coffee per day increases your risk of developing exfoliation glaucoma by 66%. more studies are needed to confirm the results. you can read about the study.

typically we should be in the low 70's this time of year. yesterday we peaked at 56. today will be similar in the mid 50's. record is in the '90s for the high temperature and in the 30's for the low temperature. upper 30's and '40's out there this morning. we had some rain yesterday, a quarter inch up to 1/2 inch in spots. more clouds are streaming in from the south and west. it's going to be a mainly cloudy day. the chance of rain later this afternoon and through the evening as temperatures will rebound a little. high-pressure losing its grip. tomorrow, that's when the system moves out. back to some sunshine on tuesday. warm temperatures on wednesday ahead of the next cold front. there could be a sprinkle on wednesday.

block of woodland drive. around 3:15 this morning they got a call from a suspect saying he wanted to harm himself or others. police talked to some people knew that man and thought he was headed to his girlfriend's house. police found a man in the backyard warned the family inside the home to get them out and they got out safely and that's when officers saw the suspect coming out of the stairwell. there was an exchange of gunfire and the suspect was hit by the gunfire and taken to the hospital. his condition is still unknown. we know no police were injured. we're hoping to have an update for you later on in the newscast. that is breaking news -- a police-involved shooting in silver spring. for those taking metro

i am in silver spring near georgia avenue and the beltway. we understand the shooting occurred at 2:15 this morning. police got a call from the suspect who told them he wanted to harm himself and possibly others. the after talking with people who knew the suspects they believe he was headed to his girlfriend's house. when they arrived, they found him in the backyard in a stairwell and that's where we understand there was an exchange of gunfire. at this hour, that man is in the hospital and we do not believe any officers were injured. >> if you're heading outside today, grab your code because it is cooler with below average temperatures. this is a tale of two seasons -- a warmer day on saturday and a fall day yesterday. a change could be right around the corner. >> joran van der sloot has a
